Introducing Leafprint Press

I am choosing to enter the world of books as a self-published author and illustrator. I have several reasons for this, which include retention of the full ownership of and creative license over my work. I would like to know that I can always use my work in whatever way and format I can dream up. Traditional publishing looks different than it did 25 years ago. Today, much of the legwork of promotion and marketing would still fall to me. So why should I hand over rights and a large portion of revenue if I get to do the work of navigating this industry anyway? So, to provide a home for “The Colors Danced: A Creation Tale,” as well as future publications, I’ve created Leafprint Press. Here is the story behind the name and logo of my little publishing house.

Inspired by the elm tree outside my window and my own thumb print, the logo I’ve designed for Leafprint Press aims to evoke the sense of wonder that is inherent in the world around us. I once wrote on the back of a photo of a venerable old maple, “Everything we need to know about God we can learn from a tree.” While it is not strictly true, scripture declares that “His invisible attributes…have been clearly perceived ever since the creation of the world in the things that have been made…” (Romans 1:20). And we, made in the image of the Creator, are granted the privilege and responsibility of creativity. It is a responsibility I take seriously, and the products you see with this imprint have quite literally had my hands all over them. My hope is that everything you get your hands on from Leafprint Press will delight you, pointing toward the wonders that are all around you–and the One who made them. Connect with a child in your world and share a story.

It’s a wonder-full life.
